Continental Divide Trail – Day 36 (1 miles)

Continental Divide Trail – Day 36 (1 miles)

Today turned out to not give as planned. Last night Clean Sweep and I camped just short of the highway in order to hitch in this morning and get back on trail. Instead we took the day off.

It was CS’s birthday and his parents wanted to shout him a room, so we ended up staying in Lake City, one of the more friendly towns I have been to. For example, we were walking down to the RV Park to rent a cabin and someone pulled over and offered us a few beers. These turned out to be perfect birthday beers.

I was starving and headed off to the small general store to procure some food. It was great to eat fresh fruit all afternoon. I also tried to cook a stir-fry on the BBQ for dinner. It was palatable, but it would have actually been cheaper to eat out.
The rest of the day was spent talking or watching movies. Certainly an unexpected easy day.
